you can get clear plastic rubber spacers to put in your piercings if youre worried about them closing. stage makeup is made to be completely opaque and sweat proof consider using this for covering up tattoos, concealer is not opaque enough. leave your id and wallet at home, bring a change pouch for cash. write important numbers on your arms and legs. dont just turn your location off turn your whole phone off with the battery and sim card out, only turn it on unless you need too (if you have an iphone keep it at home and get a contact/safety buddy). pin your house keys, change pouch or anything small and important on the inside of your pants or the inside of pockets to prevent losses during physical altercations. double up on socks they become pockets, and are great if you cant leave your debit/credit card at home.

to truly protect you identity you need to cover your hair, get dark sunglasses, a mask that covers around your face, a bandana and the masks we us to stop covid frm spreading show too much skin, which is really important for black and brown folks to cover, all black gloves, black shirt/jacket and pants. tuck your pants legs into your shoes or socks to help prevent them getting caught on things or pulled off.

skip oil based lotions and hair care products bc tear gas binds to oils, it also binds to many other things like clothes so dressing in layers or having backup clothes in a black backpack help, also keep plastic bags incase u need to change out of your gassed clothes and dont wanna keep them in your bag.

stay safe! stay organizing!

The Seven Sisters Oak is the largest Southern live oak in the country. Located in Mandeville, Louisiana, the national champion live oak tree is estimated to be 1,500 years old. The Seven Sisters Oak has a circumference of 467 inches, a height of 68 feet, and an impressive crown spread of 139 feet, making this the only national champion with a crown spread twice as wide as the height of the tree.

it’s weird if fat people don’t exist in your art

i want to say that this isn’t an attempt to guilt you into learning. i don’t want you to disingenuously draw fat bodies because i made you feel bullied, or because you want some sort of online clout. i’m tired of begging other artists to do something they obviously don’t want to do, so i’m not begging. i’m stating what i think of you and your work. no matter your skill, no matter your presence: it’s weird if fat people don’t exist in your art

The pandemic decimated workers so hard that there literally isn’t enough longshoreman to unload boats which is leading to an internal collapse of the supply chain. It seems that ignoring covid because only 1% of people die was a completely idiotic and downright homocidal idea that has done nothing but kill laborers and ruin the economy.

Because of all the mass death, labor is seeing a surge in its power, but at what cost truly. I hope w/ the coming wave of strikes there is finally some grappling with the fact that millions of people senselessly died so that the ruling class could continue exploiting poor workers. There wasn’t any sacrifice, this was mass murder.

Not just mass death, also mass disabling. Someone who works in an office at a desk is going to have a more manageable time returning even with reduced lung capacity and stamina than someone in intensely physical jobs like being a long shoreman. I keep seeing people saying that the 600,000+ dead aren’t coming back to the labor market, which is true. But it leaves out a vast number of people who aren’t dead and are also never coming back to work.

The statement “your mental illness does not define whether you are good or bad” goes both ways. It does not make you an abuser to be mentally ill, and it does not make you broken. At the same time, mental illness is not an excuse to hurt people, abuse people, or take accountability off of yourself.

If your response to someone being mentally ill is to assume they are evil, you are throwing mentally ill people under the bus. On the flipside, if your response to being called out on shitty behavior is to say you can’t help it because of mental illness, you are not truly taking accountability for your own actions.

White people at it again. The Flayed Lord’s name is Xipe Totec, he’s one of the main dieties in Aztec culture. He is primarily associated with fertility and agriculture, and is strongly connected to renewal and rebirth (the flayed aspect is supposed to symbolize how corn, a major crop, sheds it’s outer layers). Aside from that, we know *very* little about mesoamerican cultures. What we do know mainly comes from retellings and accounts from Spanish conquerors, who of course had a biased perspective. Finding a new temple is a huge deal, because when the Spanish were systematically wiping out our culture, they made a point to build churches over preexisting temples and shrines. A lot of the churches are still there, but the Mexican government considers them historical buildings, and as such no one is allowed to dig under the churches or excavate the area. There are countless temples we haven’t seen because they’re under these churches. Finding a temple we can actually study is such a big deal!

It really is a big deal! also, mesoamerican art history/anthropological research are actually very robust and rapidly growing fields of study. A big problem for what white people call “Aztec” research before the 90s was that, yes, a huge number of readable personal accounts were from the Spanish. The others were written in Maya Nahuatl which used two forms of glyphs, the iconographic type, and the logogram type.

That was illegible up until a boy raised on Maya archaeological sites, David Stuart, was awarded a MacArthur genius grant (the youngest ever at 18) to study the glyphs. he was able to read them as well as his first language, solved several codes, and then other academics were able to easily translate codices and ruins. that was over 30 years ago, so now we are working with about 50 fully translated Nahua codices and hundreds of fragmented ones. there are many beautiful ruins and ancient sites like these all over South America, but the Spanish did make sure to build on top of many very important ones. restoring pyramids and temples that were plundered and destroyed by conquistadors and centries of war before them is crucial to ancient Mexicatl research, but the colonial churches above so many of these sites are also unfortunately historically important sites themselves. Mexico city is also an ancient city; it would be really difficult to excavate where families have built their homes for over 20 generations.

If you need a quarantine binge one of my favorite professors at my alma mater has uploaded so many free fun lectures on Maya, Peruvian, Nahua art and visual culture here :-)

Do any of u have decent recipes that are like 5 ingredients (not including spices) and take 45 mins or less to prepare i gotta stop eating sandwiches for dinner

yeah hang on

ignore the title of this google doc because it’s a long story but it’s a really solid recipe for southwest chicken alfredo

this is a vegetarian potato curry recipe that’s about 75% spices; once you get the potatoes in there you can really do whatever you want with it

this is literally just pasta, broccoli, and cheese babey and you can live off that shit for DAYS it makes such a big portion

bro this spinach/pesto/3 cheese flatbread is so fucking tasty bro

also you can make the flatbread yourself it’s super quick!!

oh hey I’m eating this white chickpea chili right now, much like the curry it’s mostly spices and you can do p much do whatever you want with it

don’t let the name fool you these potatoes are delicious any time. not just breakfast.

this is slightly more than five ingredient when you add them together but if you have time and really wanna fuckin treat yourself I recommend these chicken strips + this cornbread + either these potatoes or these buttered veggies on the side.
